Modi 2.0: Whats the story
i would look at it differently..
first thing first, i dont love modi or any other politician. may be except atishi & atal bihari. but thats it.
all politicians worldwide have worked to divide to suit their power agenda. some came with a belief of growing their country in the process, so they chose certain paths. the best example being china — no democracy but a far better society, growing and unabashedly local.
the world has mostly been xenophobic & resentful of “others”, whether religion or nation. local came first, then others.
india, by stroke of various incidents, turned out to be a country where others came first and then local.. briefly, no one has built an “us” (and therefore everything is others & that is why others is acceptable here) and that is where the problem starts.
we are a secular nation with majority hindus who have been a calm group mostly and been screwed for 1100 years constantly. why? because hindus believe that nothing is permanent and we cannot stop change. so embrace everything.
the concept of nation came about in 15–16th century onwards worldwide. until then it was kingdoms and rule of force. so “power” & “force” were two key factors if someone wanted to expand their boundaries.
india, in the same time, had evolved so much that it had encouraged arts and liberal studies as an acceptable. people had become timid & appreciated “finer” things in life.
when force came upon them, they could not resist them. all were rusted. in all this process, hindus or the original inhabiters lost their identity and became confused on what was right.
“west” became more and more powerful in our minds. went on until 1991 when economy liberalized. then suddenly a lot of indians saw money again & how easy it was. they again became rich (not just handfuls who were rich until then). though it happened in tier 1 only.
so they went back to science and started slogging. made more money, so that the next generation could afford to learn arts & sports etc.
this phase is going on even as we speak today. the transformation is now in tier 2, 3, 4, 5 suddenly due to information accessibility. everyone speaks the same language, follows the same content & therefore getting homogenous in the process.
but while this happens, there are many who are undergoing dramatic “social & cultural” changes like women freedom, choice of partner and many other concepts which normally would take decades to come about.
this speed of change is so fast that many can’t deal with it. they do not know to react to them. so you see people not wanting anything “liberal” on one extreme and the others total liberal on the other. our population of 1.5b is not helping too. our disparity in laws are not helping too.
when a society undergoes this disparity, it is important to have a uniform law. if not, people feel jealous, victimized, backstabbed and what not. so they react — in the cover of that disparity. we see a lot of it today.
victims are becoming oppressors suddenly & justifying the act in the name of past oppression. the balance of scale never comes about. it never will. anyone who thinks there will ever be an utopian society is an ostrich with its face in the sand.
during this period, someone comes about and says that the majority now does not feel shortchanged and that he will neutralize the equation. majority believes and starts feeling happy.
all that pent up frustration, anger, neglect and unfavourable bias that they went through is coming out and this group is getting bolder. for the first time, they are speaking out and probably being heard. actually, they want to be heard. it is simmering. we may not like it, it may be wrong, but the fact cannot be denied. it needs to be accepted and then decisions taken.
what are these decisions going to be? for me, the first one is uniform & fair laws. Irrespective of religion, caste, income etc.. all should be equal. no article 370, 35(A), no preference to any faith, no acceptance of any vandalism. all done in a day. flat. like demonetization.
second one will be making caste illegal. if someone is seen following it, should be behind bars. a total equality in the eyes of law.
india needs someone who can string the beads together. all equal, all acceptable. for that, someone has to listen to hindus. modi does, or atleast appears to. that is why he has that following.
Tier 2–5 people resonate with him, his ideas, his rise to power. the fact that someone can rise from being a tea seller to holding the most powerful seat in the world. he is an inspiration & fulcrum.
all other parties miss this understanding. either they are too liberal & reject our core beliefs (congress) and customs or they go extreme and reject everything liberal (west bengal).
the violence & oppression people are talking about never happened in last 5 years. we had the least number of terror attacks, a broadly safer life. Along with that, very important, a pride coming in — that we can attack pakistan or that USA also applauds India now. All a belief, truth may be here & there, but the belief is very important.
he has given people that hope, that belief. and the coming 5 years will be his real test to becoming a legend. will he throw it all away and resort to violence? i personally do not think so. he has achieved a lot now and he is sharp enough to understand that its a real chance at creating a legacy. a true underdog legacy.
if you ask me personally — i don’t see him or anyone else really building an India that charters its way to glory. the direction is missing. a vision is missing. all work is sporadic & therefore does not count. people look at fractions and make their own story about him — some extremist, some capitalist, some populist, some feku, some genius, some marketer, some fear, some love.
of course he is a marketing genius. we need such a genius. what he lacks, to me, is courage to stand up to build on India’s identity — a uniform identity. Anyone who does that, though, will be the real leader that we all are waiting for. For the last 1500 years. We all wait for a day when we can afford to study liberal arts again.
and my dear, do not worry. you and i both love india too much to see such stupidity prevailing where everyone is doing everything. things will be alright. things are not so bad as we see on twitter, tv & papers.
Main duniya se bahaut khush tha, par phir maine akhbaar / twitter / tv dekh liya.
